Clive Cox sets sights on York’s Harry’s Half Million with unbeaten Satellite Of Love

Clive Cox is preparing a strong team for the Harry’s Half Million By Goffs at York, with the Lambourn trainer hoping Satellite Of Love can spearhead a bid for a fourth successive victory in the juvenile contest.

The Middleham Park Racing-owned colt arrives at the head of Cox’s York targets after an encouraging win in a Newbury novice, extending his unbeaten record. Cox has a notable recent record in the valuable six-furlong event at York: his horses won the race in 2023, 2024 and 2025, and he is aiming to add to that sequence this season.

Form threads through to York

Satellite Of Love’s Newbury success carries additional weight given the form line. One of the placegetters from that race, Song Of The Clyde, went on to win at York last year after finishing second at Newbury. Another runner who finished prominently in that Newbury contest, Agrippa, subsequently franked the form with victory in an expensive Goodwood maiden for Richard Hannon, further endorsing the race standard.

That combination of recent performance and strong piecework in recognised pattern makes Satellite Of Love a leading candidate from Cox’s yard for the Knavesmire juvenile feature.

Multiple entries likely

Cox is not planning to rely on one contender. He expects to send several juveniles to York for the six-furlong prize, with Salisbury winner Pride Of Toledo and Secret Society noted among the possibles. Cox suggested he would like to have two or three representatives in the race, reflecting the depth of the stable’s team for sprinting events this season.

Such a plan mirrors Cox’s recent approach in the race, where he has frequently fielded more than one runner and enjoyed considerable success. With Satellite Of Love in good order and other promising juveniles in training, Cox will assemble what he describes as a “nice hand” to play on the Knavesmire.

York’s juvenile showcase

The Harry’s Half Million has grown into one of the richest juvenile prizes on the British flat calendar, attracting top two-year-olds from across the country. For trainers it represents both a significant purse and a valuable stallion-making opportunity, so the prospect of landing a fourth straight victory is an attractive one for Cox and his owners.

For racegoers and those following juvenile form, the race also offers an early look at potential sprinting stars and the chance to see how promising Newbury and Salisbury performers fare against a deeper field on York’s straight track.

What to watch

  • Satellite Of Love – unbeaten after a Newbury novice success, owned by Middleham Park Racing and positioned as Cox’s likely flagship for the race.
  • Pride Of Toledo – a comfortable winner at Salisbury and among the candidates being considered for York.
  • Secret Society – another juvenile Cox has earmarked as a possible runner over six furlongs.

With recent winners from Cox’s yard including Dragon Leader (2023), Diligently (2024) and Song Of The Clyde (2025), the trainer will head to York hopeful that his string of good returns at the meeting can be extended once more.
